For my business I need to know how many freelancers is there in each field (how many web designers, how many coders, etc.) in order to know how big is the market. I don't think there is an online service for that, at least not in the Czech Republic.

Is there any freelancer evidence searchable via API? How to be sure the people still work in that field. In my experience people check in the registration form everything just in case they will need it later.

you can never know how many there are but i'll tell you now there are more web designers and coders in this world than any other major. india alone is a coder country so is pakistan and russia. in the usa about 40% are coders/ designers etc. the market is very huge. in order to be sucessful you need alot of money for advertising to be known. another way is word of mouth but can take time depending on your reputation.
