Connect EAN codes with product database

Would be great to have a database of EAN codes on the food and other products so online and mobile applications can be built easily. Just imagine pointing your camera on the EAN code and you know how much it costs in online shops, what is an avarage price or what are the user references.

Where do you need to register EAN codes if you want to launch a new product? This could be a good source.

Actually, EAN codes are international. Check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Article_Number_(EAN)

would be a nice feature for existing online shops. though not a sustainable business/startup idea by itself i am afraid.

To Zdenek: I dont' think so. If you built API and then provide it for reasonable price it can be quite big business.

But.. Many products with the same EAN are different in different countries. Various product specification :(
